65 Clean Hockey Romance Books to Read (On Kindle Unlimited)
As a romance reader, I love reading hockey romances, but it can be difficult to find good ones with no spice in them. So, I started compiling a list of clean hockey romance books that can mostly be found on Kindle Unlimited. This is a list I’ll continuously update as (hopefully!) more come out!

My Favorite Clean Hockey Romance Books
These are my favorite hockey romance books that I can vouch for as all closed-door romances that are worth the read. These are all so sweet with good writing as well. I hope you like them as much as I did!

The Golden Goal by Annah Conwell
This is a great book on KU that’s part of a series of sports romance books, but the other books are different sports. This author has so many sweet romance books, you should really read them all, but this is one of my favorites.
- Childhood Friends
- Rivals to Lovers
- Forced Proximity
“Shaw Daniels is the bane of my existence. Always has been. Always will be. When we were kids, he annoyed me to no end by being good at everything. He didn’t have to study or really even try. Meanwhile, I tried too much and still lost to him. Then when we were teenagers, our rivalry became twisted. He started sabotaging all my relationships. I retaliated by doing the same to him. Now, we’re adults and we should be able to move on. But when I become a physical therapist for his professional hockey team, it seems as though we can’t let go of our rival tendencies. Suddenly, our teasing starts to border on flirting. The kind of lines that once crossed … you can never go back to the way things were before.”

Just Don’t Fall by Emma St. Clair (and 7 Book Series)
This book is the first in a bigger series about the fictional Appies Hockey Team with multiple different authors in the series. Just Don’t Fall and Romancing the Grump are my favorites in the series, and St. Clair has a lot of other good romances outside of hockey, too.
- Childhood Crush
- Brother’s Best Friend
- Workplace Romance
“Before Logan Barnes was hockey’s hottest bad boy, he was my brother’s best friend … and my first crush. Oh, yeah–and the guy who ghosted me and broke my teenage heart.
Now Logan is back in Harvest Hollow, but not willingly. Recovering from an injury (and some bad press), he’s stuck playing for our minor league team. Which means I’ll be working with him almost daily. As the hockey team’s social media manager, it’s my job to wrangle all the guys into filming TikTok trending videos. But Logan doesn’t want to be wrangled. Turns out … neither does my heart. Because my old crush never died.“
Romancing the Grump by Jenny Proctor is the fourth book in the series, and also has some of my favorite tropes.
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Fake Dating
- Workplace Romance
“Nathan Sanders didn’t earn his reputation as the grouchiest player on the Appies hockey team by chance. So when Summer Callahan breezes into his life with her flirtatious smiles and endless charm, he responds like he always does: he completely ignores her. But Summer is intrigued by the surly defenseman, so when a viral social media post requires her to step in and fake it as Nathan’s girlfriend, she jumps at the chance.
But Nathan doesn’t crack so easily. Despite their obvious chemistry, he makes his lack of interest in a relationship—any relationship—perfectly clear. But the longer they pretend, the less fake everything seems, and the more Summer starts to fall.
She can only hope her fake relationship doesn’t lead to real heartbreak.”

DC Eagles Series by Leah Brunner
This whole series is great if you’re looking for multiple connected closed-door romance books about hockey players. This series begins with Desire or Defense:
- Grumpy MMC
- He Falls First
- Professional hockey player x nurse
“I’m the notoriously angry, grouchy D.C. Eagles defenseman who just can’t keep his temper in check—a temper that leads to a fifteen-game suspension from the NHL. As if that’s not bad enough, I’m forced into a short-term youth-hockey coaching gig—which my manager swears will “rebuild my image.” But what I didn’t expect was for a gorgeous, spunky blonde to stomp onto the ice on day one and lecture me about being rude to her little brother. Something about this spitfire of a woman, and the boy she’s so protective of, has my defenses melting. And if I’m not careful, I’ll burst into flames, forever melting the ice I’ve carefully kept around my heart.”
Then Flirtation or Faceoff:
- She Can’t Stand Him
- Dating Coach
- Hockey Bad Boy
“After getting my heart broken, I’ve sworn off athletes forever. Then my best friend has to go and marry an NHL player, and his teammate, Colby Knight, won’t leave me alone.
Colby is a master at scoring (on and off the ice), and he’s not used to being told no. So he takes my disinterest as an invitation to pursue me even harder. I ignore him…until I realize I can use his expertise to help me get my crush’s attention.
But now that he’s my dating coach, and we’re spending so much time together, I’m growing more and more distracted. I mean, those dimples? Very enticing.
Just when I think he might be more than just a playboy hockey player, a blast from the past comes back and reminds me why I swore off athletes in the first place. Can I trust Colby, or is he just another jerk who will break my heart?”
The third book is Betrothal or Breakaway:
- Marriage of Convenience
- Childhood Friends
- Single Mom
“Ford’s love life isn’t non-existent, it’s just hopelessly one-sided. And the only woman he’s ever wanted—his childhood best-friend, Amber—doesn’t reciprocate his feelings. So why bother dating?
When Amber’s fiancé leaves her pregnant, and without health insurance, she’s prepared to do it all alone. Until childbirth causes complications with her heart and she needs minor heart surgery.
Ford proposes a plan: a quickie wedding, insurance for Amber and her baby girl, and two years of platonically wedded bliss.
But how will he let go when he’s not only in love with Amber, but also with her baby girl who now feels like his own?
And even worse, Ford might have to walk away sooner than he ever expected …”
And the last book is Secret or Shutout”
- Age Gap
- Forbidden Romance
- Golden Retriever MMC
“I had a chance encounter in a dimly lit bar that led to an earth-shattering kiss with a beautiful stranger.
But then the next morning my world is rocked again–when I walk inside my team captain’s house and see her.
Farrah Remington isn’t a mysterious stranger after all, she’s the little sister of my captain and best friend. A woman firmly off limits to anyone on the D.C. Eagles.
Now, I have to pretend that kiss never happened. But the more I see Farrah, the hotter our chemistry burns, and the stronger our connection grows–until we can’t resist each other any longer.
Sneaking around isn’t ideal, but what my team captain doesn’t know won’t hurt him (or piss him off in the middle of the Stanley Cup playoffs).
I’m with my dream girl and my team is sailing through playoffs…until the truth comes out.
Now my team captain hates me, I can’t keep pucks out of my net to save my life, and the woman I love won’t speak to me.”

Rookie Season by Leah Brunner and Katie Bailey
A character from the DC Eagles (Andy’s younger brother Noah) is all grown up and a star player himself now. This is the first book in an ongoing series about the next generation of hockey players but equally as good.
- Roommates
- Grumpy MMC
- Hockey Player x Dancer
“Noah Downsby has always had one goal: play professional hockey. Now that he’s finally made it, he’s determined to prove himself. And if he’s going to have the best rookie season in NHL history, he needs zero distractions. But Noah didn’t plan for Allegra—Ally—Callahan moving in with him. With her sassy smile, smart mouth, and bad habit of ‘borrowing’ his jerseys—nevermind her stupid cat who won’t stop sleeping in his bed—one thing’s for certain: Ally is officially a distraction.”

My Phony Valentine, My Lucky Charm, and My Merry Mistake by Courtney Walsh
I really enjoyed this whole series and wish that there were more! But definitely give these a try if you’re looking for clean hockey romances, especially ones with professional hockey players. The first book, My Phony Valentine, is so sweet with great main characters, and the perfect option if you love the fake relationship trope.
- Fake Dating
- Hockey Player x Chef
- Meddling Family
“My days usually consist of agonizing over my failing restaurant, worrying about my mountain of debt and nursing my broken heart.
Everything changes when I bump into a man in the coffee shop and claim him as my new boyfriend. To my absolute horror, he turns out to be hockey’s most renowned bad boy, Dallas Burke. To my absolute delight, he goes along with my story.
When his no-nonsense manager and meddling grandmother jump in the picture, they see a win-win solution for my failing restaurant and Dallas’s less-than-stellar reputation.
A full-fledged fake romance complete with contract negotiations, pretend dates and phony PDA.
But as I get to know the real Dallas Burke, who is not the man the press says he is, it becomes clear that if this isn’t real. . . someone better tell it to my heart.”
The second book in the series, My Lucky Charm, is my favorite. I love a grumpy but misunderstood MMC.
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Single Dad
- Forced Proximity
“It’s no secret that I love life. And Dr Pepper. But also, I love a challenge. . . So when the coach of the Chicago Comets gives me the opportunity to help their star player, newly traded to their team, acclimate to life in Chicago, I’m all in. I have to be. After my last job went up in flames, I have something to prove. It turns out that the player, Grayson Hawke, is the rudest, most off-putting, reclusive guy I’ve ever met. It also turns out that he is the beautiful stranger I kissed on New Year’s Eve.
I can do this job. And I can. Really well. I can make Gray’s life easier, show him all the reasons to fall in love with this city, and in the process, hopefully completely forget that the amazing kiss ever happened. How hard can it be? We’re total opposites anyway. I love people . . . and all their stories. Gray loves hockey . . . and nothing else. I love to talk. Gray only stares. I’m happy-go-lucky. Gray’s all work and no play. There’s just one problem. The more time I spend with Grayson Hawke, the more I start to see that underneath his bristly, standoffish exterior, he’s nothing like the man everyone thinks he is.”
The third book is My Merry Mistake.
- Golden Retriever MMC
- He Falls First
- Opposites Attract
“I don’t like to make mistakes. Ever. Especially when those mistakes are witnessed by the same person—flirty Finn Holbrook—who can’t seem to leave me alone. Can I really trust him not to tell anyone that the night we met, I tried to kiss him? Or that I fell apart after I got fired from a job I loved? Or that I’m not as strong as I want everyone to think I am?The simple fact that he’s boomeranged back into my orbit after all these years feels like a great, big cosmic joke. Only now he’s a professional hockey player, and while he doesn’t look like the goofy college bartender I met all those years ago, he still acts like one—immature, flirty, and unable to take anything seriously. Which is why I never, ever fall for his game. I know better than to get swept up in romance. I don’t have time. I’m busy making myself irreplaceable in my new job with the Chicago Comets. Work isn’t just something I do, it’s who I am. And while my sisters are constantly on me to slow down and take breaks, those things aren’t on my schedule, so . . . I push on. Do more. Load up my schedule. Overcommit. Until eventually, my stress lands me in the emergency room. The prescription? A month off. No work. No distractions. Unless you count Finn Holbrook, who keeps showing up at my door, determined to leverage his positive, golden retriever energy to show me there’s a great, big world outside that I haven’t bothered to explore, most of it covered with white twinkle lights and Christmas decorations.“
High School Hockey Romances
I felt the need to put these books under a different header because, while I really liked them, not everyone wants to read romances about high school. That’s just too young for some people, so be aware that the next books are set at that age.

Rival Darling and Grumpy Darling by Alexandra Moody
This book series is about a group of brothers who play hockey in high school. It is geared towards younger readers, but it’s still a good book and series with more to come. The first book is currently on KU, but the second one is not.
Rival Darling:
- Rivals to Lovers
- Fake Dating
- Small Town
Grumpy Darling:
- Friends to Lovers
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Small Town
“When Violet is left heartbroken by the captain of her school’s ice hockey team, she vows never to date a jock again. But to prove she’s moved on, she turns to the most unlikely person: her ex’s biggest rival, the notorious captain of the Ransom Devils.
Reed Darling is gorgeous, mysterious, and intimidating—the only thing people love to talk about more than his hockey skills are his exploits as a ruthless heartbreaker and bad boy. Who better to serve as Violet’s fake boyfriend until her ex gets the message, right?
But Violet soon starts to wonder if there’s more to Reed than the gossip suggests. And Reed is determined to win her over and show her he’s not the guy everyone thinks he is. Is this jock about to break all her rules?”

Fake Skating by Lynn Painter
I’m a big fan of Lynn Painter’s writing and her clean romances, so I was excited she was doing a hockey romance. This is also set in high school, but the writing is still really good and not too ‘young’. Because it’s so new and by a popular author, it’s not currently on KU.
- Fake Dating
- Childhood Crush
- Small Town
“Growing up, Dani couldn’t help but follow around the adorable son of her mom’s best friend. Funny, kind of nerdy, and a little soft, Alec was always down to hang with Dani when they were little. From play dates on the playground to sneaking into movie theaters, Dani and Alec were inseparable. Until Dani moved away. Alec promised they’d stay in touch—except, they didn’t.
Flash forward and Dani is back in Minnesota for her senior year, she and her mom living with her grandfather. Dealing with the fallout of her parents’ devastating divorce, Dani wouldn’t mind a nerd-out with the cozy and comforting Alec (and maybe a chance to confront him on his MIA status for all these years). But teenage Alec is nothing like the kid Dani remembers. He’s a hockey star in a town where hockey players are worshiped as gods. Dani’s place as his shadow has been taken up by drooling female fans…and he loves it.
Dani is resolved to ice out her former best friend until an unlikely series of events brings them together—and forces them to fake being a couple. Once forced together, the former childhood sweethearts begin to reconnect, unearth complicated family secrets, and face their true feelings towards each other…including the real reason Alec has been pushing Dani away all these years.”
More Clean Hockey Romances
Here’s a few more options that I didn’t like quite as much as my favorites, but were still good if you’re looking for clean hockey romance books. Most of these are on Kindle Unlimited.

Faceoff by Mari Loyal and 3 Book Series
If you’re dying for a closed-door romance with a female hockey player as well, this whole series is a good read. It’s also one of my favorite tropes, so I really enjoyed it.
- Rivals to Lovers
- Secret Bargain
- Cocky Captain of the Men Hockey Team
“The days in Luz’s hockey career are numbered after an accident years ago left her with chronic pain. Playing at the new women’s team of her jock-hating ivy league college is her last chance, and getting named captain means that she can’t afford any distractions.
That is until her meet-disaster with Max, the new men’s hockey team captain, leads to their teams declaring war on each other.
Even if his massive Italian family doesn’t recognize it, Max is one of those once-in-a-generation talents, and he plans to focus on nothing but hockey to wow them. But when a snobby professor pairs him with Luz for a project, she starts to become the one distraction he can’t shake…”

Season’s Scheming and Holiday Hostilities by Katie Bailey
These are both Christmas themed hockey romances, but you could really read them at any time. I actually read them last summer, and still liked them a lot.
- Marriage of Convenience
- Workplace Romance
- Hockey Bad Boy
“When Maddie Grainger’s longtime boyfriend dumps her on TV for the entire world to see, she thinks she’s hit rock bottom.
Until her parents announce that they’re spending the holidays with her ex’s family… And he’ll be bringing the woman he left her for.
All Maddie wants for Christmas is to stick it to her cheating ex. But how?
Enter Sebastian Slater, the NHL’s most infamous player.
On a drunken night out in Vegas, Maddie asks the superstar athlete to pose as her new boyfriend. She’s kidding, mostly. But Seb shocks her by making a counter offer: he doesn’t want to date Maddie for the holidays… he wants to marry her.
Show up at her ex’s cabin alone, or with a surprise new hockey-playing husband? Maddie opts for the ultimate level up.
Because maybe, just maybe, revenge is a dish best served betrothed.”
The second book is Holiday Hostilities.
- Brother’s Best Friend
- Enemies to Lovers
- Secret Crush
“There’s only one thing Olivia Griswold hates more than Christmas: her brother’s best friend, Aaron Marino.
The NHL’s favorite playboy has hordes of adoring fans, but to her, he’s still the cocky jerk she’s loathed since high school.
But when Aaron hears Olivia’s spending the holidays with her roommates from hell, he offers her a place to escape to.
His place, to be exact.
In return, all she has to do is be his date to his hockey team’s Christmas gala. It seems simple enough, but Olivia soon discovers that sleeping behind enemy lines is a dangerous game—especially when the enemy looks like that.
Olivia knows she’s playing with fire, but she won’t let herself get burned again.
And they do say to keep your friends close and your enemies closer…”

The Roommate Remodel by Grace Worthington
This is the fourth book in a series, but the only hockey romance in there. It’s a cute story, but not as good as the other ones on the list.
- Second Chance
- Best Friend’s Brother
- Roomates
“I stupidly agree to allow a handsome hockey player to rent a room upstairs. Am I crazy? Maybe. Desperately broke? Most definitely.
So imagine my shock to discover he’s the cute hockey guy I kissed at my best friend’s wedding last year.
He still calls me princess and is unfairly gorgeous.
And now I have to see him. Every. Single. Day.
I’m trying not to trip over my own feelings—for the sake of this team and my job as the team’s community relations manager.
No matter how Brax looks at me or how real things start to feel, I know this is a temporary arrangement. He’s too talented to stay on this team.
And the roommate situation is too hard on my heart, no matter how good I am at pretending there aren’t sparks flying between us.
But when my feelings for Brax heat up, I wonder how this game between us is going to end.
With me winning over the man I can’t stop thinking about? Or losing everything, including my heart?”

Perfectly Wedded by Grace Worthington and 5 Book Series
If you liked The Roommate Remodel, that same author went on to write another series about other players on that same hockey team. They’re not bad for clean hockey romance books, so if you need more options, give these a try. This is all about the first book in the series Perfectly Wedded.
- Marriage of Convenience
- Best Friends to Lovers
- Forced Proximity
“My best friend was only supposed to be my fake date to a work event in Vegas. But when my ex showed up with another woman on his arm, my friend suggested the ultimate payback: pretending we were engaged.
When I accidentally mention my medical insurance issues due to a car accident, he proposes taking our charade to the next level—a temporary marriage until I’m better.
I nearly spit out my drink.
Yeah, right. Like that won’t completely ruin our friendship.
But we can’t go back now. Our charade worked so well that everyone bought it—even my ex who leaked our Vegas wedding all over the internet.
Now we have to go through with this farce…at least until I’m better and the media storm dies down for my hockey star husband.
If that wasn’t complicated enough, my sister is married to his brother, which means this fake marriage just took things from ‘mildly complicated’ to ‘full-blown family soap opera.’
We’ll have to sell this to our friends and family by fake kissing and sharing a bedroom, all while sticking to our friend zone rules behind closed doors.
But there’s just one tiny secret he doesn’t know:
I’ve been in love with my best friend since I met him.
When he pulls me close and says, “my wife,” I know I won’t ever forget that.”

Kissing Beck Thomas by M. J. Padgett and 6 Book Series
This is a really sweet romance about the FMC accidentally kissing the very last person she wants to. It’s also the first book in a series about the brothers.
- Enemies to Lovers
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Best Friend’s Brother
“Vivien Mays is in love with her best friend, but she’d rather die than tell him. Enter her sister, Lorelai, with a crazy plan to test the waters with a social media challenge sure to get Ezra Thomas’s attention—a kiss challenge. Vivien finally gives in to her sister’s insane idea and kisses her best friend, but in a moment of mistaken identity, she kisses his twin brother instead… her lifelong nemesis.
Beck Thomas watches his dreams go up in smoke when an injury ends his hockey career. The grumpy pessimist wants to be left alone, but when his brother’s annoying best friend accidentally kisses him, it sparks an interest he didn’t know he had. Despite Vivien’s freak-out when she realizes the truth, Beck can’t help but wonder if there’s something more to the kiss, and he’s willing to work to find out.
When the opportunity to spend more time together arises, Beck seizes the chance to prove to Vivien that they can not only get along but they might be perfect for each other. Vivien, on the other hand, is pretty sure she won’t survive two weeks pretending to like Beck.”

Against the Boards by Cynthia Gunderson and 8 Book Series
This is truly an adult romance with mentions and allusions to spice, but no actual spice written in the book. So if that’s more of what you’re looking for, try this whole series!
- Fake Dating
- Forbidden Romance
- Bad Boy MMC
“There’s zero rationale for why I would fall for Tyler Bowen. I mean, he’s the star winger of my brother’s hockey team and yet is better known for his moves off the ice. His playboy reputation is a huge red flag. Though that was exactly why I asked him to kiss me.
In front of my overprotective brother.
As a joke.
I didn’t plan on Tyler’s dad finding out, and I definitely didn’t anticipate him offering me the job of a lifetime.
I suppose it doesn’t matter that we’re working together and playing a part for my new employer. Tyler’s made it crystal clear he’s not into serious relationships, even though the sparks flying from our fake touches might just be intense enough to melt the ice.
I don’t chase after players, and I’m not about to start now. All I need to do is finish the job and skate free because having Tyler close is enough to make me forget why the two of us could never happen.”
Hockey Romances on My TBR
These are all clean hockey romances that I have queued up to read at some point, but haven’t gotten to yet. I’ll move them to a different place on the list once I do read them and know how good they are.
- Glaciers Hockey (4 Book Series) by Kristine W. Joy
- The Nebraska Knights (8 Book Series) by Ellie Hall
- New York Raptors (4 Book Series) by Marion De Ré
- Love in Maple Falls (7 Book Series) by multiple authors
Hopefully you can find a few on this list that you enjoy! I’ll keep adding as I go because this is one of my favorite sub-genres in romance books, but it can be difficult to find closed-door options. Happy Reading!
