My Favorite Romance Books I Read This Year

| |

If there’s one thing I’ll always make time for, it’s a good romance book. This year I read so many love stories that made me laugh, swoon, and occasionally stare at the wall thinking about fictional characters like they’re real people. These are the romance books that truly stood out to me—the ones I couldn’t stop thinking about long after I turned the final page.

If you love charming banter, cozy settings, emotional growth, and romances that feel both comforting and exciting, this list is for you. Most of these are repeat authors because once I liked one of their books, I just read them all. Maybe I’ll try to branch out more next year.

This is a constantly changing list that I will continue to update.

Fake Skating – Lynn Painter

Lynn Painter does fake dating so well, and Fake Skating is no exception—except this time, it’s on ice. This story is fun, flirty, and full of that signature Painter banter I love so much. The chemistry builds naturally, the characters feel relatable, and the fake relationship trope is executed in a way that feels fresh instead of predictable. It’s the kind of book that makes you smile the whole time you’re reading it.

Battle of the Bookstores – Ali Brady

A romance and bookstores? Immediately yes. Battle of the Bookstores is a love letter to books, community, and finding connection in unexpected places. I loved the rivalry-to-romance energy, the small-town charm, and the way the story balances humor with heart. This one feels especially perfect for book lovers who want a romance that celebrates reading just as much as love.

Practice Makes Perfect – Sarah Adams

Sarah Adams is my go-to author when I want something sweet, comforting, and swoony without heavy spice, and Practice Makes Perfect delivered exactly that. This book leans into character growth and emotional vulnerability in such a gentle, meaningful way. The romance is slow-building and heartfelt, and I loved watching the characters learn how to love someone else.

The Seven Year Slip – Ashley Poston

This book completely stole my heart. The Seven Year Slip blends romance with a touch of magical realism in a way that feels emotional, thoughtful, and unforgettable. It’s about timing, grief, healing, and the idea that love can find you when you least expect it—even if the timing isn’t perfect. I went into this expecting a romance and came out with all the feelings.

Beg, Borrow, or Steal – Sarah Adams

Another Sarah Adams win. Beg, Borrow, or Steal is playful, cozy, and full of small-town charm. The banter is top-tier, the romance is incredibly sweet, and the story feels like a warm hug. This is the kind of book you read when you want to relax, escape, and fall a little bit in love with love again.

Picking Daisies on Sundays – Liana Cincotti

This book feels soft in the best way. Picking Daisies on Sundays is a slower, more reflective romance that focuses on emotions, connection, and quiet moments that mean everything. It’s beautifully written and perfect for readers who love character-driven stories. A really lovely, heartfelt read.

Final Thoughts

Every book on this list gave me something different—laughter, comfort, tears, or that giddy feeling you get when a romance just works. If you’re looking to add some feel-good, heartfelt romances to your TBR, I can’t recommend these enough. This was such a good reading year for romance, and these books are a big reason why.
